Put away your brooms (unless it's for Halloween)
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Tuesday, October 29.
MLB
The Yankees were too good this year for the World series to end in a sweep. Here’s how New York stayed alive and won game four:
Freddie Freeman started things off with yet another two-run homer. Freeman’s amazing World Series continues, as he’s homered in every game. There was a weird moment where fan tried to interfere with Mookie Betts in the outfield, but otherwise it felt like the Dodgers might just keep the win-streak rolling.
But New York responded. Austin Wells broke out of a months-long slump with a long double to center field, and (after a brief base-running mishap) Anthony Volpe came around to score. The Yankee shortstop became a true New York hero in the next inning, blasting this massive grand slam to take the lead:

LA scratched across two more runs, and at one point, this game was just 5-4. But with his team chasing a deficit, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts elected to rest his high-leverage relievers and save the arms for the next game. This strategy has worked for LA throughout the playoffs, but the price may have been a chance to end the series last night. The back of the Dodger bullpen gave up five runs in the eighth, including a three-run homer off the bat of Gleyber Torres. And maybe most importantly for New York’s comeback hopes– Aaron Judge had his first RBI of the series. The Yankees won game four 11-4.
NBA
Basketball time!
Despite 37 points from Anthony Edwards, last night was deja vu all over again for the Minnesota Timberwolves; Luka Doncic and the Mavericks won the first meeting of these teams since last year’s Western Conference Finals. Doncic drained a three-point dagger to seal the win, Kyrie Irving dropped 35 points with six threes, and the Mavericks grabbed 12 steals in a 120-114 road victory.
For the second consecutive game, the Denver Nuggets rallied for an overtime victory. Nikola Jokic had another ridiculous triple-double (29 points, 18 rebounds, 16 assists) and three other Nuggets reached 20 points in the win. Denver beat the Brooklyn Nets 144-139.
Without Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins, the Golden State Warriors trailed 34-14 early in the second quarter against the New Orleans Pelicans. But Buddy Hield scored 28 points (7-11 from three), Brandin Podziemski added 19, and Lindy Waters III scored 21 off the bench for a comeback victory. Golden State moved to 3-1 on the season with a 124-106 win.

Hockey! Hockey! Hockey!
Look away, St. Louis friends. An injury-plagued Blues team lost 8-1 against the Ottawa Senators last night. St. Louis native Brady Tkachuk had two goals in the win.
That just barely won the contest for greatest margin of victory on Tuesday. The Seattle Kraken beat the Montreal Canadiens 8-2, thanks to Brandon Montour’s first career hat trick.
Don’t let San Jose get hot! After winning their first game on Monday, the Sharks now have two victories on the season. They beat the Kings 4-2.
Now a member of the Minnesota Wild, Marc-Andre Fleury won three Stanley Cups as a member of the Penguins. Naturally, Fleury was the winning goalie and first star of the game last night against Pittsburgh, a fitting last appearance in the city before Fleury retires at the end of the season. With their beloved goalie leading the way, the Wild won 5-3:

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Some NFL news from yesterday… Texans WR Stefon Diggs is out for the season with a torn ACL. Diggs is the latest in a lengthy list of skill players around the league who will miss the rest of the year… The Baltimore Ravens have traded for Panthers wide receiver Diontae Johnson. By trading an upcoming free agent, Carolina moved up from the beginning of the 6th to the end of the 5th round in the draft. Is that really all they could get for a talented wideout? And last but not least, the Colts have named Joe Flacco their starting quarterback for this weekend, officially sending Anthony Richardson to the bench. It seems Indianapolis is going all-in on making it to the playoffs.
The NBA has fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for misleading statements about the health of Joel Embiid. Teams are allowed to rest injured players. But as many people pointed out (including The Remix), you can’t just decide to rest a guy for half a season. As it turns out, Embiid is actually recovering from an injury.
Duke freshman Cooper Flagg has signed an endorsement deal with Gatorade. Flagg is the first men’s college basketball to do so, and joins Paige Bueckers and JuJu Watkins as the other NCAA hoopers on the Gatorade team. Meanwhile, Cooper’s twin brother Ace announced his commitment to play basketball next year at the University of Maine.
Will Venables has been hired as the new manager of the Chicago White Sox. A Princeton graduate and nine-year MLB veteran, Venables spent the last two seasons as a member of the Texas Rangers coaching staff. Now he’s tasked with improving the worst team in baseball history.
