NOTEWORTHY NEWS

The biggest move of the summer so far, Philadelphia has acquired closer Jhoan Duran from the Twins for one of their top pitching prospects Mick Abel and a highly regarded minor league catcher. The flame-throwing Duran will be counted on to close out games and stabilize a shaky Phillies bullpen.

Keeping pace with their NL East rivals, the New York Mets struck a deal for Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley. While not as dominant this season as last, Helsley and current closer Edwin Diaz form a monster, unhittable duo at the backend of games for New York. St. Louis acquired a trio of prospects in exchange for their closer, who will be a free agent after this season. The Cards also sent reliever Steven Matz to the Red Sox for a guy who may or may not be good at baseball, but has the great name of Blaze Jordan.

Tyler Rogers and Taylor Rogers were both traded yesterday- that’s a set of Twins that was not expected to be on the move! The submarine-throwing Tyler was sent by the Giants to the Mets, who have suddenly built one of the best bullpens in the game. And Taylor…

…was traded by Cincinnati to Pittsburgh as part of a package for third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes. Arguably the best defensive third baseman in the game, Hayes has massively disappointed at the plate. The Reds will hope to unlock that part of his game after acquiring him from their division rival.

And just like that, we’ve got a new contender for biggest move of the summer! The Mariners have reunited with power-hitting third baseman Eugenio Suarez– this is their second trade in two weeks for an Arizona corner infielder. The former Mariner has been one of the premier home run hitters in baseball this year. Seattle is officially all-in, having secured the top bat on the market.
