Trey gets paid

Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Thursday, April 3.

NBA

Giannis Antetokounmpo put up a stat line never before seen in the NBA– 35 points, 17 rebounds, and 20 assists! The incredible triple-double from Giannis was enough to lead Milwaukee over Philadelphia 126-113.

Tie game, 10 seconds left. Ja Morant and the Grizzlies have yet to win a game under interim coach Tuomas Iisalo:

Well, LeBron and the Lakers are currently hosting Steph Curry and the Warriors. Two of the greatest of all-time dueling in a potential playoff preview. Here’s a link to the box score, because unfortunately this game was meant for West Coast viewers…

NHL

The St. Louis Blues win streak? It goes all the way up to eleven. Robert Thomas scored the game-winner in overtime as St. Louis beat the Penguins 4-3. The win ties the longest win streak in franchise history, a mark set in 2019.

MLB

To the baseball diamond we go:

  • Alex Bregman hit his first home run as a member of the Red Sox, rookie Kristian Campbell hit his second homer of the season, and Boston took down Baltimore 8-4.

  • It took Aaron Judge 28 games last season to hit five homers– he ended the year with 58. What if I told you that through six games of this season, Judge already has five home runs? Watch out record books! Judge and the Yankees continued their early-season power surge and defeated the Diamondbacks 9-7.

  • For the third game in a row, Cincinnati has lost 1-0. This time it was against the Nestor Cortes and the Milwaukee Brewers.

NCAA BASKETBALL

UC Irvine played an all-time classic against Chattanooga in the finals of the NIT… and they came so, so close to winning:

NOTEWORTHY NEWS

Trey McBride is now the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals gave their Pro Bowl playmaker a four-year, $76 million extension.

The New England Patriots have traded quarterback Joe Milton to the Dallas Cowboys for a fifth round pick. A second-year player, Milton will be the backup to Dak Prescott.

It was sort of a slow day yesterday, but that’s only because we’ve got an action-packed weekend ahead of us…
