Thunder road (to a title)
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Monday, May 26.
NBA
OKC showed once again why they’re the number one seed in the West last night, winning a crucial game four 128-126 on the road. Here’s what went in Minneosta:
Anthony Edwards, welcome to the Dorture Chamber. 2025 All-Defensive Team honoree Lu Dort was magnificent as the focal point for Oklahoma City’s defensive gameplan concerning the Timberwolves superstar. Edwards was just 5-13 from the field and finished with 16 points.
On offense, the Thunder stars delivered. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 40 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds, but Jalen Williams was just as impactful, scoring 34 points on 6-9 shooting from three. Chet Holmgren added 21 as the young OKC trio rebounded after a tough game three. It was a complete performance
The only downside to an extremely well-played playoff game? The ending. Although it’s the right decision, fouling a team when up by three is not very exciting. The Thunder made their free throws and never allowed the Timberwolves a chance to hit a game-tying or winning shot, so you can’t fault the strategy. But math is taking away the chance for late-game heroics, and frankly, that’s no fun.
NBA needs to do something about intentionally fouling up 3. It’s the worst possible experience for end of game enjoyment.

NHL
Congratulations to the Carolina Hurricanes on winning their first game in the conference finals in almost 20 years! The Canes beat an undermanned Florida Panthers team 3-0, thanks to a dominant two periods and two empty-net goals to seal the deal. Game five is back on home ice for Carolina as they attempt to do the impossible: come all the way back from a 3-0 series deficit.
MLB
Baseball? Baseball:
Shohei Ohtani is back on top, swatting his Major League-leading 19th home run of the year yesterday. The Dodgers beat the Guardians 7-2.
Begrudgingly, I’ll take a moment to recognize the Cubs. Chicago beat the Rockies 3-1 yesterday and hold a three-game lead in the NL Central. They’ve got one of the best records in baseball this season.
Tie game, 11th inning. Runners on first and third. That’s the setting for a truly “wild” walk-off…
CHEESE ROLLING
The greatest sporting event in the world takes place once a year in Gloucestershire. That’s right, it’s the annual cheese rolling event! Hundreds of spectators turn out to watch people fling themselves down a steep hill, racing after a wheel of cheese to see who can reach the bottom first. “I don’t like cheese,” said the winner of yesterday’s women’s race, 20-year-old Ava Logan.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Caitlin Clark will miss the first game of her basketball life after straining her left quad. The Indiana Fever superstar will miss two weeks with the injury.
