The Hot Stove turns on!
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Thursday, July 24.
MLB
Not too many games to recap after a light Thursday schedule- a bit of a theme lately during these long summer months. The Remix may adjust our publishing schedule if these super-short recaps keep popping up… let me know your thoughts.
Anyway, here’s what went down on the baseball diamond yesterday:
Steven Kwan hit two homers for the Guardians, but Cleveland fell 4-3 to the Baltimore Orioles.
Move over Tigers! The Blue Jays are now the proud owners of the best record in the American League. Toronto beat Detroit 11-4 yesterday. Ernie Clement and Joey Loperfido hit back-to-back home runs for the winning team.
It was all about Luis for the Athletics. Luis Severino struck out eight over seven innings and Luis Urias knocked out a solo home run as the A’s beat the Astros 5-2.
Brendan Donovan and Willson Contreras hit three-run homers in the same inning off Padres starter Yu Darvish. The Cardinals won a back-and-forth game 9-7 against San Diego.
The Mariners beat the Angels 4-2, thanks to home runs by Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena, and Jorge Polanco…
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
…and those same Seattle Mariners are getting a nice boost to their lineup, courtesy of a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks. First baseman Josh Naylor is heading to the Pacific Northwest in exchange for two pitching prospects. It’s the first domino to fall ahead of next week’s trade deadline as the Mariners add some much needed pop at a position of weakness. Get ready for some wheeling and dealing!
Sending our thoughts to Kansas basketball coach Bill Self, who is recovering after surgery to place two stents yesterday. "The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon,” said the university.
