Stanton leads the Bronx Bombers
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Tuesday, August 19th.
MLB
I think today’s headline gives you an idea about the topic of our first story…
Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton hit back-to-back-to-back homers in the first inning of their game last night against the Rays. When the game was (mercifully) over, New York had blasted nine homers! The Yankees crushed Tampa Bay 13-3.
Congratulations to Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. on his 100th career homer! One of the brightest young stars in the game, Witt and Kansas City beat Texas 5-2 last night.
And how about Matt Olson? Even in a lost season for Atlanta, the Braves first baseman continues to take the field and put up good numbers. He made a bit of history in his first at-bat last night, too:
Matt Olson is appearing in his 746th consecutive game 👏
That is now the 5th-longest streak in the Expansion Era (since 1961).

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
2010 number one pick and 11-year veteran John Wall officially retired from the NBA yesterday. Wall was a superstar at Kentucky and an elite point guard during his early tenure with the Washington Wizards. Injuries marred the end of his career, but the five-time all-star made a name for himself as one of the league’s top talents and fan favorites. Congrats to Wall on a great career!
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the WNBA season due to a knee injury. A promising year for Indy has been decimated by injuries– Cunningham is the third player to be lost for the season, while Caitlin Clark has been out for over a month.
Daniel Jones has been named the starting quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. He won the job after an offseason battle with former top-ten pick Anthony Richardson. Sorry Colts fans.
