Sports!

Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Thursday, August 7.

MLB

Just four games yesterday, so we’ll quickly jump through all of them:

  • Jacob Lopez struck out 10 over 7.2 shutout innings, leading the Athletics to a 6-0 win over the Nationals.

  • Paul Skenes was his usual unhittable self, striking out eight batters over six innings. The Pirates beat the Reds 7-0.

  • Atlanta took down Miami 8-6. Catcher Drake Baldwin is the favorite to win National League Rookie of the Year; he hit two home runs in the victory.

  • Dominic Canzone hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning and Seattle continued their win streak, beating the White Sox 4-3.

TENNIS

She did it! Victoria Mboko took down Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to win the Canada Open. A magical two weeks in her home country for the newest rising star in tennis. Just an unbelievable accomplishment for Mboko.

On the men’s side, Ben Shelton won his first 1000-level title, defeating Karen Khachanov 6-7, 6-5, 7-6 in a heavyweight battle. The draw may not have had all the top players, but that doesn’t take anything away from the young American, who won the biggest title of his career.

NOTEWORTHY NEWS

Brutal injury news for the Los Angeles Chargers, as standout offensive tackle Rashawn Slater tore his patellar tendon during practice yesterday, which will cause him to miss the entire 2025 season. Sending our best to Slater during his recovery.
