Showtime Luka; Happy Thanksgiving!
Good Morning! Today is Tuesday, November 25. Here’s what happened over the weekend in the world of sports… and a lookahead to an action-packed Thanksgiving week!
NFL
We began with some unbelievable Jameis Winston highlights yesterday, but let’s run through the scores (and a few impressive performances) from Week 13 NFL:
Chicago 31, Pittsburgh 28
Patriots 26, Bengals 20
The Chiefs are alive! Kansas City came back from a late deficit to save their season, beating the Colts 23-20 in overtime.
Ravens 23, Jets 10
Seahawks 30, Titans 24
Packers 23, Vikings 6. Minnesota’s young QB JJ McCarthy is really struggling.
Jaguars 27, Cardinals, 24 (OT)
Lions 34, Giants 27 (OT). Is Jahmyr Gibbs the best running back in football?
Falcons 24, Saints 10
Shedeur Sanders is the new starting QB in Cleveland! He’s the first Browns QB to win in his NFL debut since 1995. Browns 24, Raiders 10.
Philadelphia led Dallas 21-0… and lost 24-21!
Rams 34, Buccaneers 7
And on Monday Night Football, the 49ers beat the Panthers 20-9. Christian McCaffrey had a touchdown and 142 all-purpose yards in his first game against his former team.
COLLEGE SPORTS
There weren’t too many notable college football scores from this past weekend– shoutout the Badgers of Wisconsin, who upset (21) Illinois. But this was a pretty cool play by Duke, who out-coached their rivals in this victory:
On the hoops side… ranked teams are 96-1 against unranked teams this season, their first loss coming yesterday à la Seton Hall upsetting NC State. But this week is where the action really heats up! Flip on any channel or streaming service and enjoy some of the best basketball you’ll see all year. Not yet in the mood? Check out this electric finish from the Bahamas over the weekend:
NBA
Presenting the Remix top three things right now in the NBA:
Luka Doncic is bringing back the Showtime Lakers:
Nikola Jokic remains the best player on Earth, both in the box score and with ridiculous no-look passes:
Detroit can’t lose! Cade Cunningham and the Pistons have won 13 games in a row.
NEWSWORTHY
The Mets and Rangers have made a fascinating early-offseason deal. New York is sending outfielder (and longest-tenured Met) Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for second baseman Marcus Semien. It’s an exchange of two veterans on cumbersome contracts– Nimmo’s defense is declining as is Semien’s offense, but both can still contribute to a playoff roster.
Congratulations to the Dallas Wings on winning the WNBA Draft Lottery for the second consecutive year! They’ll add another top talent alongside Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers.
A few front office movements– Las Vegas has fired offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, and the Lakers have moved on from the Buss siblings as members of their scouting department.
