Baseball brawls and cartoon curses

Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Tuesday, September 10.
MLB
Not a ton of must-see sports action yesterday, which means we get to highlight seven great stories from Major League Baseball. Let’s dive in:
Tigers rookie Keider Montero threw a three-hit “Maddux” against the Rockies– nicknamed for the former Cy Young winner Greg, that’s a complete game shutout in under 100 pitches. Detroit dominated all aspects of this one, winning 11-0.
Eddy Alvarez is one of seven people to medal in both the Winter and Summer Olympics. After two years away from the big leagues, Alvarez made his return last night, starting at second base for the Mets. Unfortunately for New York, they lost to the Blue Jays 6-2.
Padres infielder Luis Arraez has not struck out in over a month. The streak is now fourth-most in plate appearances without a K since 2000. Arraez is unlike any player in today’s game; he leads the National League in hits, but ranks 59th out of 70 qualified batters in slugging percentage. Since the all-star break, 472 players have struck out twice in a game… Arraez has two strikeouts total! The Padres beat the Mariners last night 7-3– obviously, Arraez had three singles.
Benches cleared in Philliadelphia after Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch. Rays reliever Edwin Uceta had just given up four hits in a row and blown open a tied game when he plunked the Phillies slugger. Uceta claimed it was a changeup that got away from him. The radar gun picked up a 96 MPH sinker. As for Castellanos, the man who got hit? He had some interesting comments (the Phillies won 9-4):

Reds rookie Rhett Lowder continued his sizzling start in the big leagues, picking up his first career win with five shutout innings in a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals. Lowder has a 0.59 ERA in his first three appearances.
A few weeks ago, Aaron Judge appeared on an episode of the popular kids show Paw Patrol. He has not hit a home run since. Some think it’s just a coincidence. Others are calling it the Paw Patrol curse. Either way, the Yankees lost 5-0 to the Royals last night, and are 4-6 in their last ten games.
Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto returned from the injured list last night and struck out eight batters over four innings. The star of the game, however, was Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. Chicago won 6-3, thanks to two RBIs from the rookie and two unbelievable catches. Take a look for yourself:
