Schwarber hits 40

Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Monday, August 4th.

MLB

Apologies to the teams playing on the west coast this month, but time zones are going to make it tough to report on those scores. Lucky for us, we had some great action last night in the early slate:

  • Dante Bichette hit over 200 homers as a member of the Colorado Rockies. Last night, his son Bo drove out two of his own on the road in Denver. The Blue Jays shortstop finished the night with six RBIs and Toronto crushed Colorado 15-1.

  • The Phillies hit six home runs last night, none bigger than this one– no need for an explanation. Just watch the crowd go wild:

NOTEWORTHY NEWS

De’Aaron Fox has signed a four-year, $229 million max contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs. The super-quick point guard is now locked in to his role as the second half of a dynamic duo with Victor Wembanyama– look out for a healthy San Antonio to make waves this year in the western conference.

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open for the second year in a row, citing a “non-medical” reason. The 24-time Grand Slam champion will go into Wimbledon without playing a match since Wimbledon.

TODAY’S BIG GAMES (all times Eastern)

MLB:

  • Every team plays baseball today! Which raises the question: do readers of the Remix want the Big Games section to continue this summer? There’s always something exciting to watch, but not much to highlight ahead of time…

Everyone go see the new Naked Gun in theaters! But first check out the original, which features one of my all-time favorite sports scenes from any movie:
