Scheffler, Sinner, Alcaraz, and Mookie
Good Morning! Today is Monday, August 17th. Here’s what happened over the weekend in the world of sports.
MLB
Baseball? Baseball:
Well, all good things must end. After 14 wins in a row, the Milwaukee Brewers finally dropped a game yesterday. It took Cincinnati 10 innings, but the Reds delivered a streak-ending victory on a walk-off single.
Dodger fans were beginning to worry a few days ago, as they had lost their NL West lead to the San Diego Padres. That worry was quickly erased by a three-game sweep. Mookie Betts delivered the final blow with a go-ahead homer yesterday, putting LA back on top of their rival.
The Mets are this year’s winners of the Little League Classic. Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of little league ballplayers, New York defeated Seattle 7-3 in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania. A fun tradition to grow the game that doesn’t get talked about enough.
Now this one… this one you have to see to believe:

GOLF
Robert MacIntyre held a four-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler heading into the final round at the BMW Championship this weekend. That lead was gone in a flash, and the number one player in the world quickly jumped to the top of the leaderboard. And then, when he needed something amazing to clinch yet another victory… Scheffler delivered:
SCOTTIE. SCHEFFLER. ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!

TENNIS
Iga Swiatek looks unstoppable as she moves her way into the finals of the Cincinnati Open. The number three seed took out Elena Rybakina in the semis yesterday, just days after Rybakina dismantled top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek’s opponent will be Jasmine Paolini, one of the most likeable players on tour. We’ll see what goes down today at 6 PM…
On the men’s side, the Cincinnati Open has delivered us another edition of the matchup of the year. Once again, the final of a major tournament will be played between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Each player has reached this point in their own trademark fashion– Sinner with flawless, almost robotic execution. Alcaraz with rollercoaster performances and magic unlike anyone else on tour. The last two weeks have provided tennis fans with a very entertaining tournament. A new chapter in the rivalry is the perfect way to cap things off.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
The Big Ten is really emphasizing the word “big” these days. Reports are circulating that the conference is exploring yet another proposed expansion of the College Football Playoff, all the way up to 28 teams! Will this ever happen? Who knows. Is it crazy, considering just over ten years ago the playoff didn’t exist at all? 100%, it’s insane.
Six American golfers have clinched their spot on this fall’s Ryder Cup team. The tournament will be at the end of September at Bethpage Black in New York. Captain Keegan Bradley will select the remaining six members for Team USA:
