Saquan saves the Eagles; McDavid makes history
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Thursday, November 14.
NFL
Thursday Night Football was quite a game! In case you missed it, here’s what went down:
Eagles kicker Jake Elliot missed two of three field goals and the Washington Commanders took a very strange 7-3 lead into halftime. This contest was a battle between two defenses playing good football, but the struggling offenses didn’t help themselves much.
After trading field goals in the third quarter, Philadelphia took the lead in the fourth on a patented Jalen Hurts Tush push touchdown. Suddenly, the tides shifted. Philly stopped Washington on a fourth-and-short, scored another TD, forced an interception, and then scored again. A sleepy Eagles offense woke up just in time and ran away with the game at the finish line. The Commanders scored late to make it close, but Philadelphia’s 20-point fourth quarter was enough to win this one 26-18.
The star of the game was running back Saquan Barkley. A former division rival, Barkley has become the focal point of the Eagles offense. He ran for 46 yards and two touchdowns in this one, averaging over five yards per carry. Just watch Barkley’s moves on this 39-yard TD scamper– it’s a good summary of how this game ended:
SAQUON AGAIN! The @Eagles pulling away on TNF.

NHL
‘Twas a busy evening on the ice last night. Here are the highlights:
It takes quite a lot to stop a historic win streak. Well, the Tampa Bay Lightning had plenty of whatever “it” is last night, taking down the Winnipeg Jets 4-1. The star of the game was Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevsky, who stopped 24 shots. Vasilevsky also became the fastest goalie in NHL history to reach 300 career wins.
Jesper Bratt is not related to the bad guy in Despicable Me 3, he’s not the brother of the actor named Benjamin, and (as far as I know) he’s not a big fan of Charli XCX. No, this Bratt is a New Jersey Devils forward who excels in scoring goals. Led by Bratt’s hat trick, the Devils beat the Florida Panthers 6-2.
Connor McDavid is the best hockey player on the planet, and now he’s reached a new milestone. McDavid scored in the second period last night and became the fourth-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,000 career points. If that wasn’t enough, McDavid dished out an absolutely nasty assist to beat the Nashville Predators in overtime. An incredible showing by the Oilers superstar:

NBA
Just one game last night in the NBA, but it was a good one. The Dallas Mavericks and Utah Jazz were tied at 113 in the final moments. Luka Doncic had 37 points as the visiting Mavs surged towards a victory without the injured Kyrie Irving. But Jordan Clarkson found former Wake Forest star John Collins wide open under the basket with just enough time on the clock:

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
The Rays have found a home for 2025! Tampa Bay will play their games next season at George Steinbrenner Field, the spring training site of the New York Yankees. With a capacity of just over 11,000, it should make for a really unique Major League experience next season.
I promised updates, so here goes nothing: Diamond Sports Group (who own the networks formerly known as Bally Sports) have emerged from their bankruptcy trial. I’m not going to try to summarize the legal proceedings, but basically all the drama about watching sports is over… for now. Just know that if your favorite baseball team played on Bally Sports last season, they will either be on an MLB-run TV station or the newly-branded FanDuel Sports Network in the future. Basketball and hockey teams have pretty much been unaffected. Most importantly, all FSN teams will have a new direct-to-consumer streaming option, so that should make watching games much easier. Pricing and other details will come soon– you can read more the entire situation here.
Lindsey Vonn is back on the slopes! Six years after her last Olympic appearance, the three-time medalist has announced plans to rejoin the US ski team. Wishing her the best of luck as Vonn prepares for Italy 2026.
