Passing? Who needs it!

Good Morning! Today is Monday, November 10. Here’s what happened over the weekend in the world of sports.

NFL

The World Series has ended and there’s a chill in the air, which can only mean one thing… football has taken over the top spot in the Remix. Let’s talk about some games:

  • Rough week for those of you still alive in a survivor pool. The Dolphins crushed the Bills 30-13 and the Saints surprised the Panthers 17-7. Luckily the Bears stormed back late to beat the Giants 24-20. That snowy affair in Chicago changed dramatically once QB Jaxson Dart left the game with a concussion.

  • Jonathan Taylor is making his case for offensive player of the year and might even be entering the MVP discussion. The Colts RB scored three touchdowns, including this awesome 83-yarder, leading Indy to a 31-25 win over Atlanta in Berlin.

  • Our game of the week award goes to the Patriots and Bucs (apologies to Houston/Jacksonville, but Davis Mills vs Trevor Lawrence just isn’t as interesting). Drake Maye and New England are the real deal– the Pats scored a touchdown in each quarter, slowing down Baker and Tampa Bay just enough for a 28-23 victory. Plus rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson was finally unleashed by the Patriots, as he ran for 147 yards and two TDs.

  • The afternoon slate was… not good. Seattle, Detroit, and the Rams beat the Cardinals, Commanders, and 49ers by a combined score of 130-70. All three margins of victory were 16 or more. At least there were a lot of points!

NCAA FOTBALL

As you may have gathered from today’s headline, it gives me great pleasure to recap these two wonderful upset victories from Saturday’s college football action (we’ll highlight some other notable scores when the new CFP rankings are revealed later this week):

  • Amidst a trying season in Madison, a ray of hope emerged for the program this weekend as Wisconsin took down (23) Washington 13-10. Four different Badgers attempted passes during the game– the punter led the entire group with one completion for 24 yards… as a team, they finished with only 48 yards through the air! But as they say, a win is a win.

  • And how about Wake Forest! The Demon Deacons upset (14) Virginia 16-9 for their sixth win of the season. To the surprise of many, Jake Dickert’s team is bowl eligible in his first year on the job. Oh, and continuing the trend: the two Demon Deacon quarterbacks combined for 64 total pass yards. Keep the Ws coming!

Alas, the biggest and best play of the weekend was the result of a football being thrown through the air. Undefeated (2) Indiana gave up 17 unanswered points and found themselves trailing Penn State by four with under a minute remaining. But then… well, take a look at this catch:

NBA

Is this the dunk of the year?

How do you recover from that? Will the Bulls ever win again? More on that and other stories across the Association on Thursday, where we’ll take an early look at the standings.

NHL

The future is now, proclaimed many NHL-related tweets from the weekend. And the reason? Check out the current points leaders:

If it weren’t for an otherworldly performance yesterday by MacKinnon, the top three in the league would be Connor Bedard (20 years old), Leo Carlsson (20), and Macklin Celebrini (19). It’s a fun time to be a hockey fan.

SOCCER

For the first time in Remix history, I am proud to bring you highlights from the Canadian Premier League! Now I know what you’re thinking, but before you scroll past this section just take a look at these unbelievable highlights. The whole world was locked in on Atlético Ottawa and Cavalry FC as they played the finals in the snow:

If you can’t or don’t want to watch the entire game highlights, please at least watch this goal. I promise it’ll make you smile:

NEWSWORTHY

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue passed away this weekend at the age of 84. Current commissioner Roger Goodell was one of many who released a statement: "All of us in the NFL are deeply saddened by the passing of Paul Tagliabue, whose principled leadership and vision put the NFL on the path to unparalleled success… Paul was the ultimate steward of the game -- tall in stature, humble in presence and decisive in his loyalty to the NFL… He viewed every challenge and opportunity through the lens of what was best for the greater good, a principle he inherited from Pete Rozelle and passed on to me. ... I am forever grateful and proud to have Paul as my friend and mentor.”

Two odd hirings in the baseball world– after serving as a member of the interviewing committee, Padres executive and former reliever Craig Stammen has been hired as the new manager of the Padres. “In a season of shocking managerial hires, this one tops the list,” says MLB insider Jeff Passan.

And the Colorado Rockies will turn the keys over to Cleveland Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta. You might be wondering why anyone in the galaxy would want the guy who runs the Cleveland Browns to be in charge of their organization, but DePodesta has a history in baseball. He got his big break in baseball as an assistant to Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane– Jonah Hill’s character in Moneyball is based on him.

Finally, former Cleveland Guardian pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted on sports gambling charges. You can read more about the case here.
