NFL free agency, Indian Wells heats up, and the return of Remix Bracketology
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Monday, March 10.
NFL FREE AGENCY
The NFL does their business quickly, as NFL free agency began and basically ended yesterday. You can check out all the moves here, but these were the most notable:
Two standout defensive players re-signed with their teams: Khalil Mack stayed with the Chargers, and corner Jaycee Horn signed a record deal with the Panthers.
Washington is making moves– the Commanders signed defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw and made a big trade for Texans offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil.
We’ve got quarterbacks! Sam Darnold got paid by the Seahawks, Justin Fields is the new starter for the New York Jets, and Kenny Pickett was traded to the Cleveland Browns.
A few more moves on offense.. wide receiver Josh Palmer went to Buffalo, while Mack Hollins left the Bills to join the Patriots. The Chargers picked up Pittsburgh running back Najee Harris, and the Dallas Cowboys added running back Javonte Williams.
A lot of players are leaving San Francisco… the Denver Broncos grabbed the talented defensive duo of Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga, while Charvarious Ward left for Indianapolis. Fan-favorite fullback Kyle Juszczyk was released by the 49ers, too.
Finally, the Chicago Bears continued their aggressive offseason with a ton of moves, including a pickup of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett.
INDIAN WELLS FINAL 16
The incredible tennis continues in Palm Springs! Let’s jump right in with a few predictions, starting with the women’s bracket (predictions in black, current bracket in green):

I wouldn’t be surprised if every one of these picks is wrong… only two unseeded players have made the final 16, and one (Bencic) is a former gold medalist making her comeback after having her first child. I’m not exaggerating when I say that every single one of these matches this week could be won by any player.
Expect a couple upsets the next few days, but in the end, it’s hard to pick against the favorites to make the final. It’s the match we all want to see!

The left side of the bracket feels wide open, but I’m riding the hot hand and putting my money on last week’s winner in Dubai. Stefanos Tsitsipas will make the final over the winner of the Paul/Medvedev blockbuster.
There’s a whole lot of firepower on the right side. Draper and de Minaur each have the game to break through and win a title, Fritz was the champion here in 2022, and no one utilizes a home American crowd better than the biggest server on tour, Ben Shelton.
…but you’d have to be foolish to pick against Carlitos. Give me the young Spaniard to win it all, joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the only men ever to win three years in a row at Indian Wells.
AND SOME OTHER THINGS…
Paige Bueckers became the first player named the Big East Tournament Most Outstanding Player three times. Bueckers and UConn crushed Creighton in the finals yesterday 70-50.
Former MLB slugger Mo Vaughn admitted to using HGH at the end of his career in an attempt to recover from injuries, confirming his inclusion in the infamous Mitchell Report. This was before HGH was outlawed by Major League Baseball, but still a notable statement from Vaughn.
Meanwhile, star Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad has been banned 20 games by the NHL for PEDs.
Finally, Steph Curry has a new job at his alma mater as the assistant GM of Davidson basketball. Naturally, the Warriors superstar is the first active player in US pro sports to take an administrative job with a school.
A GOOD OLD FASHION HOCKEY FIGHT
Sports are fun. Never forget that:
