LeBron in Year 23

Good Morning! Today is Thursday, November 20. Here’s what happened this week in the world of sports.

NBA

LeBron James has officially set the record for most seasons played in the NBA. He made his 2025 debut for the Lakers on Tuesday night, scoring 11 points and adding 12 assists to begin his 23rd year. Luka Doncic put up 37 with 10 assists and the Lakers scored a season-high 140 points against the Utah Jazz. I’m going to say that again–

It’s been a below-average week for the NBA, as stars around the league are going down with injuries. But LeBron? We’ve never seen anything like this, and it’s likely nothing will ever compare.

NHL

I feel like Chance the Rapper in that one SNL sketch right now– not entirely sure what’s going on in the hockey world this week, sorry folks. But if you’re interested, I recommend this great quarter-season check in courtesy of Greg Wyshynski on ESPN. Or watch this Alexander Ovechkin goal… cause yeah, he’s still doing it:

NCAA BASKETBALL

A few notable scores from this week that you should know about…

  • (17) Michigan State def. (12) Kentucky 83-66

  • (5) Duke def. (24) Kansas 78-66

  • (4) Arizona def. (3) UConn 71-67

  • (11) Alabama def. (8) Illinois 90-86

NEWSWORTHY

Let’s go around the NFL! Ja’Marr Chase has been suspended for this week’s game for spitting on Jalen Ramsey last Sunday… Falcons QB Michael Penix is out for the season after tearing his ACL. It’s his fifth season-ending injury between his eight years of college and pro football… The Saints have cut veteran WR Brandin Cooks… Bengals QB Joe Burrow has practiced in full this week and may return to the field this Sunday as the Cincinnati starter.

Virginia Tech has hired James Franklin as their new head football coach. Franklin, who was fired earlier this season by Penn State, looks to be a fantastic fit for the Hokies.

We’ve got a good ol’ fashioned one-for-one baseball trade to kickstart the MLB offseason! Baltimore is sending former top prospect but oft-injured starter Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels for power-hitting outfielder Taylor Ward. You just know that six months from now, one of these teams is going to be a clear winner.

Major League Baseball announced a new broadcast deal with NBC, Netflix, and ESPN. There are lots of moving parts, but let’s see if you can follow along with how to watch baseball in 2026:

  • NETFLIX: Opening Night (Yankees vs Giants); Home Run Derby; Field of Dreams Game in Iowa (Phillies vs Twins)

  • NBC: Sunday Night Baseball; Wild Card games in the playoffs; certain “special event” games; additional coverage during all-star week and on Sunday mornings

  • ESPN: a TBD 30-game package; the first game after the all-star break; Little League Classic; new streaming home for out-of-market MLB.TV subscriptions

  • FOX: World Series; LCS and DS playoff games; All-Star game; World Baseball Classic; ”select” regular season and special event games

  • TBS: LCS and DS playoff games; select games on Tuesday nights

  • APPLE TV: Friday Night baseball doubleheaders

Got all that? There’s also MLB Network, which sometimes shows games but is at the very least talking about baseball 24/7. The big news is ESPN taking over MLB.TV– we will see how if or how that changes a very popular streaming service. Feel free to bookmark this for next spring… the season is closer than you think!
