Knicks win the Cup!

Good Morning! Today is Thursday, December 18. Make sure you read to the end of this morning’s issue… but first, here’s what happened this week in the world of sports.

NBA CUP

Congratulations to the New York Knicks, the 2025 NBA Cup champions! Jalen Brunson, named the Cup MVP, scored 25 points and dished out eight assists. New York trailed the San Antonio Spurs late in the third quarter before pulling away for a 124-113 victory.

You have to give credit to commissioner Adam Silver and the folks who run the National Basketball Association. The Cup is a bit gimmicky, but it brings a heightened level of intensity to these fall games, leading us right into next week’s marquee Christmas matchups and the heart of the NBA season.

NHL

The Edmonton Oilers needed a goalie upgrade, so they swapped Stuart Skinner with the Penguins’ Tristan Jarry. It just so happens that both netminders made their debut against their former clubs. Edmonton was the clear winner in this post-breakup meeting, beating Pittsburgh 6-4. The win also came with an impressive milestone:

Not to be overshadowed, the young guns continue to impress in the NHL. Take a look at this spectacular goal by Macklin Celebrini that coincided with the Sharks budding star reaching 50 points on the season:

NEWSWORTHY

Carlos Alcaraz is splitting up with his longtime coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. The duo has spent seven years together, as Ferrero has guided Carlos to six Grand Slam titles. There was no reason given for the decision, other than that the pairing had simply run its course. "Thank you for turning childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was barely a kid, and throughout all this time you've accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. And I've enjoyed every step of it so much with you,” wrote Alcaraz as part of his statement.

Yet another quarterback is set to make his NFL debut this weekend! The Miami Dolphins are benching embattled starter Tua Tagovailoa for rookie Quinn Ewers.

The Washington Nationals are naming Ani Kilambi of the Philadelpha Phillies as their new general manager. Kilambi, just 31 years old, joins a Washington front office full of fresh faces.

Hopefully everyone made it this far, because I really do have an important announcement today– I want to let you all know that the Remix will be coming to an end in 2026. As they say, all good things must come to an end… this wonderful little project is no exception. Before anyone gets worried, let me reassure you that this decision is only positive. Nothing is wrong. In fact, it is quite the opposite! With less than five newsletters remaining, however, I felt like it was time to let you know. For now let’s leave it at that– we’ll spill plenty of ink reminiscing next week.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way… hope you all have a fantastic weekend. See you on Monday morning!
