Home runs for everyone!
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Monday, June 2nd.
FRENCH OPEN
Alexander Bublik won the match of the day yesterday with an impressive upset over (5) Jack Draper, while Lois Boisson continued her magical run in her home country with an upset over (3) Jessica Pegula. The quarterfinals are set in Paris…

It’s hard to bet against the favorites– I’m taking Sabalenka and Swiatek in the top half, setting up a must-see popcorn match in the semis. And in the bottom, give me Coco and Andreeva. After that? No idea
The FINAL EIGHT is officially set.

It’s felt like Sinner and Alcaraz were destined to meet in the finals, and after watching their spectacular play the last week, it remains difficult to bet against that happening. Bublik, Paul, Tiafoe, and Musetti are each playing spectacular tennis, however, so it’s not going to be an easy road. The Italian, Musetti, has been especially impressive this year on the clay. As for Djokovic and Zverev? Neither one has played a seeded player yet, so I’m not really sure what to make of them.
MLB
Just seven games were played yesterday, so let’s discuss ‘em all. A warning– if you don’t like home runs, this recap won’t be for you:
Hunter Goodman knocked two out of the park and the Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 6-4. That’s right folks, the Colorado Rockies won a baseball game yesterday! It’s their 10th victory of the season.
Mike Trout absolutely crushed this ball over the Green Monster, Jo Adell hit two homers of his own, and the Los Angeles Angels almost blew a 6-0 lead… they managed to hold on and beat the Red Sox 7-6.
The only game yesterday without a homer, Logan Webb pitched eight scoreless innings for the Giants. And San Francisco still managed to lose 1-0 to the Padres in extra innings.
Minnesota put up double-digits on the Athletics, defeating them 10-4. (Lawence Butler hit a solo HR in the losing effort)
Watch out world, Christian Yelich is heating up! The reigning National League Player of the Week hit a moonshot to deep center, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
Shohei Ohtani hit yet another longball, tying Cal Raleigh for the major league lead. Unfortunately for Ohtani and the Dodgers, Francisco Lindor hit a home run, too. The Mets beat LA 4-2 in the 10th inning thanks to Lindor’s RBI single.
Last but not least, I present to you the first team this season to reach 40 wins: the Detroit Tigers. Kerry Carpenter took our home run theme to the extreme, hitting three dingers off White Sox pitchers. Behind Carpenter’s power surge, Detroit crushed Chicago 13-1. It was a complete win for the Tigers, as they even made this miraculous catch– turn the sound on, broadcaster Jason Benetti gives a fantastic call:
if you need me i'll be watching this on repeat for the foreseeable future

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow announced his retirement yesterday from the NFL. Just 29 years old, Ragnow was a Pro Bowler each of the last three seasons. He played a crucial part in the explosive Lions offense, and will be sorely missed by the team next season. "I've tried to convince myself that I'm feeling good but I'm not and it's time to prioritize my health and my families future. I have given this team everything I have and I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don't. I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life. The Lions organization has been absolutely incredible throughout this process and I can't emphasize this enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all," said Ragnow in a statement.
