Haliburton and Rune, shots of the day
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Tuesday, March 11.
PRO HOOPS
The Cleveland Cavaliers won their 15th game in a row last night, the second time this season they’ve gone on a winning streak of that impressive length. But it was Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers who pulled off the play of the day:
COLLEGE HOOPS
Conference tournament week is off to quite a start– the ACC gave us a controversial finish and a double-overtime, plus four schools clinched their spot in March Madness. The final team to secure an automatic bid last night was Gonzaga, who beat (19) St. Mary’s for the first time this season. Watch out for the Zags to go on a run…
MORE NFL FREE AGENCY
I forgot how big NFL rosters are– we’ve got a few more notable moves:
Five-time Pro Bowler Joey Bosa signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills.
Safety Justin Reid is leaving the Kansas City Chiefs, agreeing to a three-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. Another defensive back, Carlton Davis, signed a three-year deal with the New England Patriots.
The Indianapolis Colts are bringing in embattled quarterback Daniel Jones. He’ll compete with struggling second-year QB Anthony Richardson for the starting job.
Houston continues to revamp their offensive line, sending Kenyon Green to the Eagles for defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson.
Finally, the Carolina Panthers released running back Miles Sanders, while the Baltimore Ravens signed veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
A RAINY DAY IN THE DESERT
Inclement weather forced a stop-and-start rhythm through the entire day at Indian Wells. In fact, matches are still going on as I’m writing this late Tuesday night. Still, the sun shone long enough for some great tennis action. The highlight of the day– and maybe the year– was this incredible point between Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas:
WRAPPING UP…
Tiger Woods announced he underwent surgery for a torn Achilles this week, but he is expecting to make a full recover.
Manchester United announced plans to build a new stadium which will seat 100,000 fans, making it the largest in all of England. They currently play at a place called Old Trafford, which has been Man United’s home for over 100 seasons. It’s going to take a few years to construct, but it sounds like New Trafford (that’s just what I’m calling it) will be pretty spectacular.
