Going the distance!
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Thursday, June 19.
NBA FINALS
“We sucked tonight,” said Oklahoma City guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander after last night’s game. A bit harsh, but not far from the truth. With a chance to win the NBA Finals, the Thunder threw out a clunker, getting blown out 108-91 in Indiana. OKC pulled their starters down 30 points in the fourth quarter, too. This young Thunder team learned a valuable lesson about how difficult it is when tasked with closing out a season. They’ll have another chance to close things out at home on Sunday night– let’s see if they’re ready for it.
On the other side, the Pacers did exactly what they had to do. Tyrese Haliburton was productive despite playing through a calf injury, while Pascal Siakam, Obi Toppin, and Andrew Nembhard picked up the scoring slack. And once again, it was do-it-all guard TJ McConnell who made the big difference off the bench. McConnell finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four steals. He epitomizes the never-say-die attitude of these Pacers, who successfully extended this series to a Game Seven. It’s the league’s first Game Seven since 2016. You might remember that one was for Cleveland…

Baseball, baseball! Read all about it!
‘Twas a day of milestones for the St. Louis Cardinals, who accomplished a lot in their double-header sweep of the Chicago White Sox. Nolan Arenado hit his 350th career home run– a remarkable accomplishment for the future Hall of Famer. Meanwhile, rookie reliever Andre Granillo recorded his first career win in game one, and his first career save in game two! Pretty good day for the Redbirds!
Emerging star James Wood hit two homers for the Washington Nationals yesterday, including this walk-off bomb in the 11th inning to beat the Rockies. The win snapped an 11-game losing streak for the Nats.
Royals rookie slugger Jac Caglianone hit the first homer of his young career on a pitch above his eyes. He hit a second home run a few innings later, leading KC to a 4-1 win over Texas.
And last but not least, we’ve got a third young, left-handed slugger who’s swinging a hot bat. For the second time this series, Nick Kurtz came up to the plate with the game on the line…
NICK KURTZ. CLUTCH.
That's his second #walkoff homer this WEEK!

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
The Dallas Stars traded forward Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken for two draft picks. It’s a salary cap related deal, but still a notable name on the move to kick off what is expected to be a frenzied NHL offseason.
Two retirement announcements today– linebacker CJ Mosley has hung up the pads. The five-time Pro Bowler played 11 seasons, split between the Ravens and Jets. And following this fall’s US Open, two-time Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova will retire from professional tennis. Congrats to both on great careers!
