Curry sinks the Celtics
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Wednesday, November 6.
NBA
Another night in the Association:
We begin with Steph Curry and the Warriors. Golden State traveled cross-country to take on the defending champion Boston Celtics… they left town with a victory. Steph had 27 points (21 in the second half!) and dished out nine assists, the last of which set up his new backcourt partner Buddy Hield for a clutch three-pointer in the final minute. Golden State beat Boston 118-112.
What a great play by Brandon Miller! The second-year forward for Charlotte crashed the boards and tipped in a game-winner, leading the Hornets to a 108-107 win over the Detroit Pistons.
Paul George returned to LA for the first time since leaving the Clippers this summer. Although he was booed profusely by the hometown fans, George and the 76ers were tied at halftime. But then James Harden and the Clippers outscored Philly 33-17 in the third quarter, and LA took firm control of the reunion. The 76ers remain stuck at one win on the season, falling 110-98 to LA.
Quick, tell me the first overall pick of this year’s NBA draft? You’d be forgiven for not knowing, but it may be time to learn more about Zaccharie Risacher. The Hawks rookie went 11-18 from the field with six three pointers, scoring a career-best 33 points. The Frenchman also added seven rebounds and three steals as Atlanta took down the New York Knicks 121-116
The Oklahoma City Thunder are no longer undefeated. Russell Westbrook scored 29 points, Michael Porter Jr. and Cristian Braun each scored 24, Nikola Jokic had another ridiculous triple-double (23/20/16), and the Denver Nuggets beat OKC 124-122. Even with all that production, however, the game came down to the final play. Check out this amazing defense by Peyton Watson:

NHL
Three hockey games earns you three recaps. Here’s what happened on the ice:
Although superstar Connor McDavid made his return from injury, the Las Vegas Golden Knights took down the Edmonton Oilers 4-2. The key in this one was a last-minute go-ahead goal by Noah Hanifin.
Sometimes a game just isn’t that memorable. Like this one, where the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1.
Wearing some very cool alternate uniforms, the Washington Capitals were victorious, defeating the Nashville Predators 3-2. Alexander Ovechkin continued his steady march towards the all-time scoring record with another beauty:

That's goal No. 861!

NCAA BASKETBALL
Two very opposite stories to report from college hoops yesterday. First, an impressive performance by Alex Karaban of the UConn Huskies. After his performance in a win last night over Sacred Heart, Karaban became the first D-I basketball player with 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a single game since 2003.
And then we have Villanova. The Wildcats were upset 90-80 at home against Columbia, a program that won seven total games in the Ivy League over the past three seasons. It’s the second year in a row that Nova has lost to an Ivy League school. Villanova made the Final Four in 2022, their last season before Jay Wright retired as head coach. This is their third season under Kyle Neptune, and they have yet to make it back to the tournament.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Not much to report in the sports world today, although it was announced that Willson Contreras will be a full-time first baseman going forward. That’s pretty noteworthy news to all the St. Louis Cardinal fans out there. And while we’re on the topic of baseball position changes, the Dodgers announced Mookie Betts will begin next season as an infielder.
