Curry sinks the Celtics

Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Wednesday, November 6.

NBA

Another night in the Association:

NHL

Three hockey games earns you three recaps. Here’s what happened on the ice:

  • Although superstar Connor McDavid made his return from injury, the Las Vegas Golden Knights took down the Edmonton Oilers 4-2. The key in this one was a last-minute go-ahead goal by Noah Hanifin.

  • Sometimes a game just isn’t that memorable. Like this one, where the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1.

  • Wearing some very cool alternate uniforms, the Washington Capitals were victorious, defeating the Nashville Predators 3-2. Alexander Ovechkin continued his steady march towards the all-time scoring record with another beauty:

NCAA BASKETBALL

Two very opposite stories to report from college hoops yesterday. First, an impressive performance by Alex Karaban of the UConn Huskies. After his performance in a win last night over Sacred Heart, Karaban became the first D-I basketball player with 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a single game since 2003.

And then we have Villanova. The Wildcats were upset 90-80 at home against Columbia, a program that won seven total games in the Ivy League over the past three seasons. It’s the second year in a row that Nova has lost to an Ivy League school. Villanova made the Final Four in 2022, their last season before Jay Wright retired as head coach. This is their third season under Kyle Neptune, and they have yet to make it back to the tournament.

NOTEWORTHY NEWS

Not much to report in the sports world today, although it was announced that Willson Contreras will be a full-time first baseman going forward. That’s pretty noteworthy news to all the St. Louis Cardinal fans out there. And while we’re on the topic of baseball position changes, the Dodgers announced Mookie Betts will begin next season as an infielder.
