Bluejays defeat Jayhawks
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Wednesday, December 4th.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Wednesday was all about college basketball. Let’s get to some highlights:
For the second night in a row, the SEC walloped the ACC, winning five out of their six matchups. The domination was highlighted by (10) Alabama beating (20) UNC in Chapel Hill by 15 and driven home by Mississippi State upsetting (18) Pitt 90-57. However, the ACC’s sole victory was a big one; (9) Duke looked spectacular in their takedown of (2) Auburn. Cooper Flagg had 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Blue Devils, and fellow freshman Isaiah Evans knocked down six threes off the bench.
Elsewhere in college hoops, (25) UConn rebounded from their rocky Thanksgiving with a 76-72 win over (15) Baylor. And one day after I apologized for leaving (5) Marquette off the undefeated teams list, the Golden Eagles fell at (6) Iowa State 81-70.
The game of the night, however, was in Omaha. Unranked Creighton upset (1) Kansas 76-63, handing the Jayhawks their first loss of the year. Pop Isaacs made six threes and scored 27 points to lead the Bluejays. This is the second season in a row that Creighton has beaten the number one team in the country (UConn last February):
OH WE DID THAT (again lol)

NBA
It was not a good night to be a basketball team from Los Angeles…
The Los Angeles Lakers were crushed 134-93 by the Miami Heat. Tyler Herro went nuclear in the third quarter, scoring 21 points on seven three-pointers. As a team, the Heat had a franchise record 42 assists! LA has now dropped six of their last eight games, although LeBron snapped his recent scoring slump with 29 points on 12 of 18 shooting. He also knocked down his 2,451st career three-pointer, moving into 7th on the all-time list.
LA’s other team didn’t fare much better. The Clippers got smoked 108-80 by the Minnesota Timberwolves. James Harden went just 1-10 from the field and the Minnesota defense stifled practically every attempt the Clippers made to score the basketball.
NHL
Sometimes, one highlight is all you need. Check out this beautiful goal by Auston Matthews, one of two scored by the Toronto Maple Leafs star as he led his team to a 3-2 victory over the Nashville Predators:

NOTEWORTHY NEWS
Speaking of hockey, the rosters for the upcoming Four Nations Face-Off were announced yesterday. The tournament between Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the US will be held in February in place of the NHL all-star game.
After suffering a brutal late hit in last week’s game, Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is out for the season. Lawrence’s injury caps off a season where absolutely nothing has gone right for Jacksonville. Azeez Al-Shaair, the Texans linebacker who hit Lawrence, has been suspended three games.
