Ant-Man takes out The King

Hello everyone! Max Baker here for my second of three Remix appearances.

It was a busy night around the world of sports that lacked many great games…

NBA PLAYOFFS

The NBA’s most physical series will continue after the Houston Rockets cruised to a 131-116 win over the Golden State Warriors. The Rockets led by 16 at the end of the first quarter and didn’t look back, leading by as much as 30 in the second half. Fred VanVleet tallied 26 points and Amen Thompson had 25 points to go along with five steals and three blocks. Game 6 will be Friday night.

The Minnesota Timberwolves became the first team in NBA history to win a game shooting under 16% from behind the arc on 36 or more attempts. They missed 40, yes, 40 three-pointers, going 7-for-47 and still managed to send the Lakers home. The Timberwolves face the winner of the Warriors and Rockets series. Editor’s note: I couldn’t believe this was a real result so I looked into this game further– an unlikely playoff hero emerged for Minnesota as the Lakers season ended a bit earlier than expected…

NHL PLAYOFFS

The Florida Panthers clinched a birth in the second round with a 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The teams traded three goals apiece in the first 30 minutes before Sam Bennett scored what would prove to be the game-winner late in the second period.

The Washington Capitals advanced to the second round with a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 5. Alex Ovechkin scored the opening goal as the Capitals jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. They will face the Carolina Hurricanes for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals.

In a pivotal Game 5, the Winnipeg Jets defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-3. The home team has won each of the first five games in this series– Game 6 will be in St. Louis Friday night.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Barcelona and Inter Milan played a classic first leg of the UCL semifinal. Marcus Thuram started the scoring with this amazing goal in the 1st minute and Denzel Dumfries scored the first of two on the day to give Inter an early 2-0 lead. But Barcelona knotted the score at halftime and the teams ultimately tied 3-3. The second leg will be on Tuesday, May 6. Editor’s note: Once again, the entire city of Madrid was gathered around their televisions to watch a high-level soccer game… they were not disappointed. Absolutely electric goal-scoring by both sides, highlighted by 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who is on his way to becoming the best player in the world.

MLB

The St. Louis Cardinals hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning to beat the Reds 6-0 yesterday in game one of a double header. A few hours later, they beat the Reds 9-1 in game two. Pretty good day at the ballpark for the Redbirds!

Colorado snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory yesterday over the Atlanta Braves. However, with a record of 5-25 on the season, Rockies set a new mark for the most losses by any team at the end of April. They’re on pace to be worse than last year’s historically bad White Sox…

NOTEWORTHY NEWS

The NFL fined the Atlanta Falcons $250,000 and DC Jeff Ulbrich $100,000 after the draft day prank call to Shadeur Sanders. If you don’t know much about Max Baker, he has never had his dad pay $100,000 for a prank call.

Former Florida State star quarterback and 2024 Jets draft pick Jordan Travis announced that he is retiring from football. He suffered a season-ending injury to his left leg in his final college game. The injury sparked debate about FSU’s playoff credibility and ultimately led to Alabama receiving a bid over them.

Alijah Arenas, a USC commit and son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, was released from the hospital after a single-car crash.

Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels narrowly edged Ivica Zubac for NBA’s Most Improved Player Award. The Australian Daniels, known for his defense, also has one of the best nicknames in the league– The Great Barrier Thief.

“Are you saying that because I’m inexperienced and that was an inexperienced decision that I made? You think I don’t talk to my assistants about substitutions every single timeout?” –Lakers coach JJ Redick, before abruptly leaving his press conference
