Ant-Man brings the boom
Good Morning! Here’s what happened in the world of sports on Monday, February 24.
NBA
‘Twas quite a night in the Association… let’s get right to it:
We start with two streaking teams in the East. The Detroit Pistons won their seventh consecutive game, taking down the Clippers 106-97. Cade Cunningham led the way with 32 points. Meanwhile, Philadelphia lost their eighth game in a row. The 76ers were blown out 142-110 by the Chicago Bulls, who had been on a six-game losing streak of their own.
Zach LaVine was 8-9 from three and dropped 42 points last night, his best game since joining Sacramento at the trade deadline. The Kings rolled the Hornets 130-88.
Another night, another mind-boggling performance by Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets superstar set a career-high with 19 assists– he also scored 18 points and brought down nine rebounds as Denver got the win over Indiana 125-116.
The game of the night was in Oklahoma City, where the Minnesota Timberwolves were in town to take on the Thunder. Down 25 points in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth, it looked like the home team was cruising to yet another victory. But Jayden McDaniels scored 27, including the game-tying three-point play to send the game to overtime. And when his team needed him most, Anthony Edwards delivered. Watch Ant-Man’s defensive effort with the game on the line and the ball in the hands of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander– the Wolves won a thriller 131-128:
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
For the first time since 2021, Kansas men’s basketball is not ranked in the AP top 25. But it’s not just the preseason number one who have struggled to meet lofty expectations– five of this year’s preseason top ten are unranked. So good luck to all of us trying to fill out a bracket this year… but first, highlights from yesterday’s on-court action:
(15) Michigan recorded their lowest-scoring victory in 17 years, scraping by in a 49-46 win over Nebraska.
(4) Houston clinched a share of the Big 12 regular season title with a 69-61 win over (10) Texas Tech. The Cougars continue to look like one of the best teams in the country.
Last but not least, one of the more impressive dunks you’ll see all year:

NHL
Just two games last night in the National Hockey League. The Winnipeg Jets beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in overtime, and the LA Kings won 5-2 over the Vegas Golden Knights.
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
A “mystery team” later reported to be the Green Bay Packers has filed a proposal to ban the tush push. That’s not very interesting, but it’s the leading news headline in sports today.
