Aho and Hali with the game on the line
Hello everyone! Max Baker here making my Remix debut. I’m hoping to channel my inner Cardinals legend Daniel Ponce de Leon who threw seven no-hit innings in his Major League Debut back in 2018.
Thrilled to be here and in your inbox this morning.
NBA PLAYOFFS
The game of the night may have very well been Giannis Antetokounmpo’s final playoff game in Milwaukee. The Bucks, needing a win to avoid elimination, jumped out to an early 20 point first half lead. The Pacers rallied back and tied the game with 10 seconds remaining. Gary Trent, who started 0-for-7 from behind the arc, made eight of his next nine attempts to help propel the Bucks to a 118-111 lead with 40 seconds remaining in overtime. But an Andrew Nembhard 3-pointer followed by five straight points from Tyrese Haliburton off of Milwaukee turnovers capped off the magical comeback. Will that be the final game for Giannis in Milwaukee? There are lots of unanswered questions that will come to fruition in the coming months. Meanwhile, the Pacers will play the Cavaliers in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Here’s a sweet video of Brook Lopez and the Pacers mascot paying their respects:
a hard fought series. great to see respect shown from the gladiators.

Editor’s note: I love that Max focused on the only positive post-game interaction, and not the multiple shoving matches that broke out… also, poor Gary Trent–

The New York Knicks couldn’t send the Detroit Pistons home in Game 5 on Tuesday night. The Pistons got 22 points from Ausar Thompson and 14 rebounds from Jalen Duren. With the game knotted at 95-95, Josh Hart collided with Cade Cunningham leading to a Pistons layup. Hart and Brunson (who was injured on an earlier play) left the game and didn’t return until it was too late. New York leads the series 3-2, but game six will be in Detroit.
The Boston Celtics took care of the Orlando Magic behind a strong third quarter, outscoring their opponents 36-13. Jayson Tatum finished with 35 points to lead all scorers. The defending champs advanced to round two, where they will face the winner of the Knicks and Pistons.
Other scores: Denver defeated the Clippers 131-115 to take a 3-2 series lead. Jamaal Murray scored 43 points to lead the Nuggets
NHL PLAYOFFS
The Ottawa Senators avoided elimination with a 4-0 road win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. They still trail the series 3-2 and are looking to become the fifth NHL team to complete the 3-0 series comeback.
The Carolina Hurricanes came back from an early deficit and eliminated the New Jersey Devils. Star forward Sebastian Aho sealed the victory with a game-winning shot in double overtime:
Other scores: Vegas defeated Minnesota 3-2 in overtime; Edmonton beat LA 3-1
NOTEWORTHY NEWS
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said that the league is considering replacing the All-Star Game's current format with an international competition next season.
San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle won the Rookie of the Year award. The fourth pick in the 2024 draft is the second Spurs player to win the award in as many years. Victor Wembanyama won last year.
Three teams scored 15 runs yesterday, but one stood out among the rest– entering 2025, no team had ever led off a game with three straight homers twice in one season. The New York Yankees accomplished that feat before the end of April. Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge and Ben Rice led off the game with solo shots before Paul Goldschmidt grounded out. Cody Bellinger then hit a home run for the fourth of the inning. The Yankees ultimately defeated the Baltimore Orioles 15-3.
BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK TO START THE GAME.
AGAIN.
Good evening from the New York @Yankees.
